Mercy

                                                     Romans 11:17-32

We are individualized in God’s sight, not lumped together in the mass.

His beneficence who came to lighten our woes and to augment our gladness.

It was not “good” for Adam to be alone. (Genesis 2:18)  A high pitch of

civilization cannot be reached or maintained in isolation. Left to ourselves,

we grow careless of refinement or progress. To shut ourselves up like flowers

that close their petals at the rude blast, to crawl inside our shell, and, closing

the aperture, to dwell simply on our own satisfactions and uneasinesses,

is the pleading of mistaken self-love that overreaches itself and misses the

pure happiness of sharing others’delights and of doing good.  Spiritual

growth is not attainable any more than physical strength by a life within-doors.

Avoid the heat and the icy wind, and health suffers by too-great confinement.

The poorest in point of worldly goods may be rich in

God-like sympathy. Many a man has been saved from utter despair by the

knowledge that another was interested in his welfare.

“Mercy and truth are met together; righteousness and peace have kissed

each other.”  (Psalm 85:10)

“And the work of righteousness shall be peace; and the effect of righteousness

quietness and assurance for ever.”  (Isaiah 32:17

“Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life, and

I will dwell in the house of the Lord for ever.”  (Psalm 23:6)

“For bodily exercise profiteth little:  but godliness is profitable unto all

things, having promise of the life that now is and of that which is to come.”

(I Timothy 4:8)

                                    Grace is when

                                 God gives us good

                             things we don’t deserve.

                                    Mercy is when

He spares us from bad things

                                    we do deserve.

                               Blessings are when

                          He is generous with both.

God is good all the time!

φαρμακαpharmakiaEnglish = pharmacy – primarily the use of medicine,

drugs, spells, then poisoning, then sorcery.  (Revised Version – sorcery;

Authorized Version – witchcraft)  In sorcery, the use of drugs, whether simple

or potent, was generally accompanied by incantation and appeals to occult

powers, with the provision of various charms, amulets, etc., professedly

designed to keep the applicant or patient from the attention and power

of demons and to impress the applicant with the mysterious resources and

powers of the sorcerer.

φαρμακειῶν

φαρμάκων

φαρμακόςpharmakosused as an adjective signifies ”devoted to magical

arts”; used as a noun, a sorcerer – especially one who uses drugs, potions,

spells, enchantments.

Drug usage is mentioned as late in the Bible as the last two chapters:

Revelation 21:8 and 22:15.

15 “For without are dogs, and sorcerers, and whoremongers, and

murderers, and idolaters, and whosoever loveth and maketh a lie.”

without (omit “for”) are the dogs, and the sorcerers, and the fornicators,

etc. The article renders each term general in its signification.

“The dogs” are those who are described in v. 11 as

the filthy;” the term is proverbial amongst Eastern nations as an

expression for what is most degraded. The epithets in this verse occur

(with others) in ch.21:8. A contrast is forcibly presented between these wicked

ones here indicated, and those who have (in the preceding verse) the right to

enter the city, owing to their purity obtained by washing their robes.

The dogs are impure and malicious people or someone with a low character. The first

time blatantly impure sinners were called dogs is in Deuteronomy 23:18. This is where

male homosexual prostitutes were in view.  (I guess today in politically correct circles

this would be elevated to hate speech?  But “political correctness” has no influence

on souls in eternity!   CY – 2015)  Sorcerers are those who practice occult or witchcraft.

Greek φαρμακοὶ - pharmakoidruggers - is the root of the English word pharmacy

which often accompanies those practices.  Whoremongers are those who practice all

kinds of sexual immorality. Greek πόρνοιpornoiparamours – from πόρνος comes

the root of the English word pornography.  Murderers: means pre-meditated murder.

This has nothing to do with accidental killing or killing in war. They are included in the

list given in ch.21:8: "But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and

murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have

their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death."

Idolaters are just those who put anything ahead of God which includes mammon (money)

or the love of everything which TAKES ONES ATTENTION OFF serving God!

Someone once said: Show me someone's calendar and checkbook and I'll tell you where

their heart lies. Think about that. Idolaters are also those who worship false gods or

worship the true God in an unacceptable matter.  Maketh at Lie: Everyone sometimes

during their life has lied as It's human nature. Some tell little white lies, even some

Christians. But all lies are acts of deceiving (and is very Satan like – John 8:44 – CY –

2015) and can be very harmful to others. Simply withholding some of the truth when

asked a question is in itself lying.   Consider carefully how you answer and instead of a

white lie or withholding a part of the truth, find another way. I would rather be told the

truth no matter how bad it is rather than find later I had be deceived. Those who

"loveth and maketh a lie" has to do with hurting someone else. Any time we hurt someone

else, it is sin.  It is not all who have ever committed any of these sins listed above that will be

excluded from heaven. But it is those who love and habitually practice these sins and

stubbornly cling to them and REFUSE Christ's invitation to salvation who will be the

ones cast into the lake of fire.  (discoverrevelation.com)
