I Thessalonians 2:17-3:5
v. 18 - “Satan hindered us” ch. 3:3-5
Rev. 20:3 - I Cor. 10:11-14 Rom. 8:28
II Cor. 11:2-4 Gal. 1:8-9 I Peter 5:4
vs. 19-20 - As woman in I Cor. 11:7 is said “to be the glory
of the man” so converts are here said to be
the glory of ministers.
The aim is not to appear before Christ empty - “Behold, I
and the children which God hath given me” - Heb. 2:13
A very sad reflection indeed, for any parent to think within
himself that he should be instrumental in giving his child
a body only to damn his soul!
v. 3 - Forewarnings of the apostle & our own experience!
Fitness for Heaven - learning patience & resignation -
Can’t be learned in health & prosperity.
II Cor. 4:17-18 Useful to a world of glory!
“KNOW that we are appointed thereunto”
Prosperity promise of OT - Affliction the NT
Example of Paul - Acts 9:16 Acts 14:22
John 16:33 Romans 12:1-2
That man should not be moved by these afflictions -
Song - I SHALL NOT BE MOVED
Steadfastness - I Cor. 15:58
Prayer - Watchfulness - praying for perseverance,
being distrustful of self, trusting only in Christ, watching
always. Expecting afflictions, chastisements, a necessary
part of Christian experience.
Thus prepared beforehand, the affliction, instead of shaking
you, confirmed and solidified you in the faith that was once
delivered unto the saints.
Pressing for the mark of the high calling of God in Christ
v. 4 - Not something strange! I Peter 4:12-13
Tribulation - Vines Expository Dictionary of New Testament Words says - it is a time mentioned preceding Christ’s Second
Coming, and as a period in which the Jewish nation, restored
to Palestine in unbelief by Gentile instrumentality, will suffer
an unprecedented outburst of fury on the part of the antichristian powers confederate under the Man of Sin.
Rom. 5:1-4, 8:35, 12:12
I John 5:1-5 4:1-6 2:15-17
Song - Faith is the Victory” that overcomes the world.
Faith is the shield - Eph. 6:16
I Peter 1:7-13
v. 5 - I Peter 5:8-11
II Cor. 2:11“Lest Satan should get an advantage of us for
we are not ignorant of his devices”
