                                       I John 4:1-21

Two rival influences for power over the spirits of men!

v. 1 - A test - prove the spirits - earnestness & fervor

            no guarantee of truth!

Many false prophets have come forth, many from

the spirit of error - ( have displayed themselves)

One uniform test - Do they or don't they confess that

Jesus Christ is come in the flesh!  Any spirit that would

relegate Christ to an inferior place is to be rejected outright.

v.2 - Confession of Jesus Christ - The crux of the matter!

v.3 - Those who do not confess Jesus is of God.

after win over Iowa on 1-18-00.

They bleeped out everything except when he used God's

name in vain.

The spirit of antichrist is a spirit of error - II Cor. 4:4

"In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of

them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel

of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them"

II Thess. 2:7-12

v. 4 - The life of God in the soul of man is the great secret

of personal religion.

Receive - Perceive - Detect - Expose - Combat - Overcome error

An unspeakable mercy to have the Holy Spirit - who is an

effective guard against false heresies!

v. 5 - The world listens to its own.  "If ye were of the world

the world would love his own:  but because ye are not of the

world, but I have chosen you out of the world, therefore

the world hateth you.  John 15:19

v. 6 - How we know the Spirit of Truth, the spirit of error!

v. 7 -  God is Light - intellectually

            God is Love - morally

            God is Spirit - reality

Thus we are taught how to think of God, stay within these

three - you cannot go wrong!

It is love which alone can explain creation.  Why should  a

Being perfectly blessed in Himself create other beings,

but to bestow a blessing upon them?

v. 8 - God's love so vast it encompasses a multitude which

no man can number, yet He yearns for one sinner to

v. 9 - a summary of the gospel of John - "He hath sent Him

            to give us life!

v. 10 - No higher manifestation of love - not love of man to

his Maker, but Love of the Maker to man!

"He loves us" - Objects

"the whole world" - the Extent

"that we might live" - His intent

v. 11 - Loving God involves loving fellowman - Pouring out

            ourselves to others!

v. 13 - Possession of the Spirit proves the indwelling of God!

A portion for us  - the fullness of Christ alone.

Given - the Gift of the Spirit - the world didn't give it to us

and the world can't take it away - left alone each would turn

to his own way.

v. 14 - The business of Christians historically - presently-

            ch. 1:1-3, Acts 26:19 - "whereupon, O King

Agrippa, I was not disobedient to the heavenly vision"

v. 15 - The soul full of God - "Christ liveth in me" Gal. 2:20

"an habitation of God through the Spirit" - Eph. 2:22

v. 16 - John 13:25 - "By this shall all men know that ye are

my disciples, if ye have love one to another"

v. 17 - Perfection of love - "Boldness in the day of judgment".

Isaiah 13:10, Ezekiel 32:7, Matthew 24:29-31

Looking forward to the Day of Judgment as the consummation

of our hope - The day when He shall be manifested.

"this world" - transitoriness - passing -

A Judge upon the throne that is a Vindicator, a Friend,

We are content with the decisions of the Son of God and

the Son of man, and desire nothing more than the entire

race should be dealt with as Christ sees fit!

My dream - the feeling I had - "we must all appear before

the judgment seat of Christ" - II Cor. 5:10

That day will close the probation of the race, for those who

are looking for Him, it will bring the salvation that is ready

to be revealed at the last time!  I Peter 1:5

Judgment is indeed a rectification, an adjustment; for anyone

unlawfully bound it will be a liberation, for the deprived of a

right, a restoration, the unjustly accused, a vindication, the

misunderstood, a manifestation, good & evil mixed together,

it will be a separation, for the bad, a condemnation, (although

Jesus said they were condemned already), for the righteous,

a glorification.

In essence, a restitution of all things - the rendering to every

man according as his work shall be.
